Discworld

Discworld (1995)

by Perfect Entertainment, Psygnosis
Genres:Adventure, Puzzle, Point-and-click
Themes:Fantasy, Historical, Comedy
Game modes:Single player
Story:Discworld is a game released for PC (subsequently Mac, and Playstation) by Teeny Weeny / Perfect 10 studios in 1995. The game was released both on floppy disk and CD-Rom. The latter featured a commentary team created of many veterans of famous Brit-Coms. This included Monty Python's Eric Idle, Radio 4's (later to be more famous) Rob Brydon, ex- Doctor Who John Pertwee, 70s pop singer Kate Robbins, and Blackadder star Tony Robinson. The game is a riff on the Discworld title 'Guards, Guards', however many elements of the text have been shifted, not least the inclusion of Rincewind as protagonist. The game featured puzzles which were considered far too difficult and obtuse for gamers of the time, but the game itself has had a lasting legacy, now being accepted into such emulators as SCUMMVM.Show more

Actually I played the PS1 version last year. As stated by loganoid, puzzles tend to be difficult. Also there is pixel hunting. It took me over 30 hours to go through it. As a last resort I more than once had to simply mix and match every item with every hotspot, and all the items with each other. But the humor makes it all for the better. Great game. 32bit console load times where bad, though. So the PC version surely must be superior.

Folk who were fans of the discword novels had it good back then. Especially with this and the 2nd game, I was heavily into click and point adventure games back then and if this ever gets onto GOG i'd be grateful.

Discworld is one of the greatest fantasy series of all time, and this adventure captured the humor so perfectly, fusing "Guards! Guards!" with a Rincewind story. While the puzzles are occasionally very obscure, the general vibe of the game and especially Eric Idle's performance as Rincewind made it so that it was never really frustrating but instead gave you an itch to keep trying.

This game was nothing less but crazy :) Crazy riddles, crazy humour and crazy difficulty. It had cool dialogues and really felt like Diskworld books by TP. It would be far too difficult in terms riddles today. I remember it being almost impossible to beat withiout walkthrough.

This game and it's successor is what got me started reading the Discworld books and discovering the genre of fantasy for real. The story was funny and some of the tasks were frustratingly hard to figure out. But me and my best friend had so much fun playing this one, both together and alone, and then discussing it and sharing what worked in school the day after. The game is a classic, by one of the best writers in history, with some really great talent sharing their voices and work in it.

One of my Favorite PS1 Game. I Bought it at Funcoland not knowing what type of Game it was and was just Intrigued by the Longbox Art and the Back. I Still have this Game and I would Definitely get this for PC. Gameplay would make more sense using a Mouse.

I played this even before I read anything of Pratchett, and it was good indeed. Later when I read "Guards! Guards?", I was surprised to see I already sorta knew the story. But nonetheless, the graphics and the humour is all there, and it's a game that should be available for everyone who enjoys the books, and so for those willing to get into the Discworld.
If you don’t want this game in your library then you must be mad… and “If you're mad you don't want to run around infecting everybody else”. I don’t like having to emulate to play my favourite games. Vote for discworld on gog!

Nice graphics even for today standards. Plus, the humor it's really fun. This game introduced me to Discworld and made me read the books, discovering an original take about fantasy stories that I've enjoyed so much. I agree about puzzles being really challenging, but nothing that a simple walkthrough cannot solve.

my first playstation game and even though its frustrating its an amazing homage to terry pratchetts work, voice casting is perfect and the humour is completely on point

Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Premium Edition
Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse - Premium EditionBroken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse is a classical point & click adventure. It abandons 3D graphics and direct control which were used in the two predecessors and returns to the style of the first two games. The only major technical differences are a higher resolution and that the characters are modelled instead of drawn.

Weird War - The Unknown Episode of World War II
Weird War - The Unknown Episode of World War IIWeird War is a classic RPG with loads of action and is set during the Second World War. It's a game brimming with adventures and humor but also with many battles. The game combines an atmosphere of adventure like that found in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" with a unique brand of humor made popular by the "Allo, Allo" Television series, creating a refreshing and lighthearted perspective of World War II. Weird War - the Unknown Episode of World War II, is similar to classic RPGs such as Baldur's Gate, Arcanum and Planescape Torment. This familiar style will allow RPG fans to feel right at home, allowing them to enjoy an original storyline in a classic gaming environment. Graphically, Weird War resembles a classic RPG's. The world is depicted in an isometric view that is centers on you as you move throughout the environment. An intuitive icon-based interface allows you to issue team commands for movement, combat, inventory management and character statistics. Combat occurs often in Weird War and takes place in real time. During the course of each battle, you can pause the game, which freezes combat, but still allows you to issue commands and access each character's inventory.

Sheep
SheepSheep is a combination strategy and puzzle game, featuring light elements of war or battle simulations, built around a wacky story in which space-faring alien explorers from millennia ago devolve into domesticated sheep on Earth. Now their ancestors are trying to round them up by secretly enlisting the aid of two humans (Bo Peep and Adam Half Pint) and two animals (a sheepdog and a pet) through subliminal mind control. Players take the role of the Earthly "herders" to lead the flocks through six worlds with multiple levels, eventually reaching special rendezvous point where they'll be loaded onto UFOs for the trip back to their home world of Ovis Aries. No direct control is exerted on the sheep so players must manipulate objects and obstacles, as well as rely on the strengths of each herder, to accomplish the tasks. Levels have time limits and a minimum number of sheep to be saved from each flock.
